Bluebird Project 2008
After seeing a male bluebird flying through my backyard, I decided to put up a bluebird box to see if I could get a pair to nest.
Timeline:
- 3-1-2008: Putting Up a Bluebird Box - The box goes up.
- 3-19-2008: Bluebird project update - No activity, so I put up a bird feeder to attract some attention to the area
- 3-20-2008: Bird feeder activity - Some of the birds feasting on my feeder after just one day
- 3-27-2008: Checking out the neighborhood - A male bluebird finally comes and checks out the house!
- 3-30-2008: Starting to build - Almost exactly one month after putting up the box, a pair of bluebirds have started to build a nest
- 4-2-2008: Still building - Two days later, the bluebird pair have made some good progress
- 4-10-2008: We have an egg! - 12 days after starting to build their nest, the bluebird female lays her first egg!
- 4-11-2008: Day 2: Egg 2 - Second egg arrives
- 4-12-2008: Day 3: Egg 3 - Third egg arrives
- 4-13-2008: Day 4: Egg 4 - Fourth egg arrives, then the weather tuns cold
- 4-16-2008: Day 5: Egg 5 - The last(?) egg hatched on Monday 4/14; the parents are very protective of the box right now.
- 4-21-2008: Bluebirds looking after their box - Pictures of the pair looking after their box
- 4-25-2008: Bluebirds perching on trees - Pictures of the bluebird perched on trees in the area
- 4-30-2008: Hatched! - The bluebirds hatch after day 15 of incubation
- 5-1-2008: Bluebird Hatchlings: Day 2 - I got a shot of a hungry one
- 5-2-2008: Bluebird Hatchlings: Day 3 - They've shifted around and now all five are clearly visible
